Finding a new home for your pet

Do Not Post "Free to a Good Home" Ads:

Posting a "Free to a Good Home" ad places your pet in a very dangerous situation. Unscrupulous people often answer these ads, posing as a family that wants your pet for a child, for example, when they really want your pet to be used in rituals, animal fighting training, snake feed, to be consumed as food, or some other cruel purpose.

Tips for Finding and Evaluating a Potential Adopter are provided below but if you have an hesitation about aggressively screening people who express an interest in your pet, you and your pet might be safer if you work through a shelter or rescue group and post an ad with the PetFBI--these groups and services do screen adoption applicants.

The Tragedy of "Free To Good Home" http://www.petrescue.com/library/free-pet.htm

The section below provides tips for safely finding a new home for your pet. The PetFBI, which operates locally, provides an alternative to "Free to a Good Homes" and it is a free service. If you don't feel confident that you can successfully screen potential adoptees on your own, you should probably look for a shelter or rescue group to help you find a new home or only give your pet to someone you know well.

Free Classified Ads for Responsible Pet Owners - the PetFBI is located in Columbus, Ohio and provides a free ad for your pet for as long as needed. Provides advice and conditions for screening potential adoptees to protect your pet from unscrupulous people that might want to harm your pet. www.petfbi.com/classified.htm
